Metamorphosis – Day 6

Much decorating today! We've chosen to do the cafe downstairs in the
same colours as the old space, so that people can feel at home 🙂

Chris spent a great deal of today trying to locate a joist in the
downstairs ceiling, only to find it's a suspended ceiling so the
joists are 6 inches above…. this was a bit of a pain for the sound
insulation on the ground floor between us and Hamptons, but Chris got
round it in the end!

Lloyd and Tom, the sparkies, came in and started work on putting
sockets and lights where we want them. We're keeping it simple and
cheap, with conduit rather than digging out plaster, and light sockets
so we can move lighting around later when we want to.

Bik & I stayed till nine putting PVA on the holes in the floor, so we
can level them out tomorrow with some levelling goop (techinical term,
that is), though we did sneak off for wrong bad veggie burgers at the
Giddy Bridge with Lisa and Pesh who'd popped in to help.

Tony came in at the end of his day's work (as did LIsa and Pesh) which
really shows the support and dedication of our volunteers. They ROCK.

Tomorrow morning the electricians are back at 7am and, as Bik & I
don't do mornings (and ZIggy only barely does), bright morning bunny
Nina will be here to welcome them and to take delivery of the rest of
the soundproofing.

Instead of heading home like sensible people, we headed to the Talking
Heads for a 10 minute slot at the Candle Club with the Shimmering
Bees. Probably due to tiredness and the fact that we've not made many
rehearsals lately, we didn't sound as good as usual but it was still
fun. Bik & I also got roped into joining the percussion section for
Kim 'Grandad Techno' – this was great fun as Kim is a great hero of
mine. There was also another totally nutty act 'Ash Mandrake' who did
a solo prog-rock act wearing a crushes velvet cloak. Awesome.
