The British Art Shoe is a DIY grassroots art project, open to ALL, as part of the BAS8 Southampton Fringe.
This grassroots, guerilla art project will explore the theme of access to art and how to take art out into the community in a simple way which includes many people.
Most people wear shoes and footwear has so many meanings in all cultures, from positive status symbols to a way of offering insult to somebody.
Shoes represent the person that wears them, or the absence of that person. It represents the role of the person wearing them, too.
Taking part could not be easier:
1) Find a shoe
2) Make it into art in your own way – paint it, alter it, write on it, the possibilities are limited only by your imagination
3) Label the base with a printable label and (optional) QR code
4) Leave the Art Shoe in a public place for somebody else to find
5) Take a photo and upload it to social media using the hashtag #britishartshoe so that people can find your Art Shoe!
