To see what’s on this week, including times when we are running drop-in community cafe events so you can just come and enjoy a cake and drink in the space, please check our calendar as these differ from week to week depending on our programme.

Our address is: 178 Above Bar Street, Southampton SO14 7DW

How to find us

We are on the intersection of Commercial Road (where the City Art Gallery/Central Library is) and Above Bar Street, next door to Mango Above Bar and Belgium and Blues (formerly Goblets) and The Scholar’s Arms (formerly The Old Fat Cat pub), opposite the Southampton Solent University building (the old Plummer’s Building)

Parking

We are in a city centre and we’re not going to tell a lie, parking can be tricky at times.  Please see here for the best parking places and allow a little extra time if you are coming to a workshop or event to find parking.  Please don’t park in the depot behind us as you may get clamped!

Accessibility

We are situated on two floors.  The ground floor has level access and an accessible toilet, a variety of seating. The first floors has a quieter seating area with sofas.

Our ground floor aka ‘Bunker178’ is often the location of performances and workshops, it has level access and an accessible gender neural toilet on the same floor.

Our first floor is where you’ll find the ‘landing lounge’ quieter seating area as well as the ‘Growlery’ and ‘The Grove’ meeting spaces. These areas are accessed via a wide staircase with two corners, and bannisters either side.  Sadly we do not have wheelchair access to the first floor at the moment.  Individual events will usually have details about where they will be and whether they can be relocated to the ground floor if needed.

The Art House has a wide variety of seating, quieter spaces and our crew are all committed to making your visit as pleasant as possible – if you need anything, please just ask.

Are children allowed at The Art House?

Oh yes!  We have baby changing facilities and are a very welcoming space for families.  If you do bring your little ones, remember our crew are volunteers so be aware of the mess your small companions may be making and perhaps have a little tidy before you leave. Some events might not be suitable for children and most of our programming is aimed at an adult audience so please use your discretion.

What about dogs?!

Well behaved canine companions are very welcome, please ensure that they’re kept on a lead and don’t bother other customers, though.  If you need water for your doggie, please ask.
