In a survey we are doing at the moment, in the comments section, one of the people responding said that they felt The Art House was ‘politically naive’ in the face of the big global changes we are going through right now.
In response, I can only say….
We are politically gentle, not naive.
Firstly, we don’t support any particular political party, but we are very political.
Business is political, community is political, art most certainly is political. So are we.
But we’re gentle with it.
Fiercely polarised, radical views most certainly have a place in the changes the world is going through. ‘Anti’ campaigns and direct action do, too.
We have no problem with all of the above – but they are part of a bigger picture, and we fit into a different part.
The less sexy, messier, more day-to-day part where we try out running a for-purpose business, a business with heart, in a non-traditional way, using the tools already in place – Limited Company structure, a ‘proper’ tenancy, insurance, keeping accounts, and all the officialdom that comes with running a premises and dealing with money.
With all the mistakes and flying-by-the-seat-of-our-pants that entails. Which is a lot.
Where we don’t always just say ‘we’re right and everyone else is wrong’ because we know that just embeds people further in opposing viewpoints, and we want to dialogue on many things.
We’re in new territory, the human race. New territory takes strong pioneers who won’t budge in how they do things.
It also takes adaptable, flexible, gentle types who are willing to see where this journey takes all of us.
That’s where we fit in.
